Casting Keepsakes is a home grown business that got started in a kitchen in 2002 by 2 sisters taking a leave of absense from their careers of biomedical engineering and accountanting trying to care for their newborn infants. While looking for the perfect footprint style keepsake, they were inspired by products used to in a local play. Unsuccessful in finding exactly what they were looking for in retail stores, they spent several weeks gathering and testing molding and casting materials until they found what they considered the perfect combinations.

Because they had many left over supplies, they decided to put together kits to give as gifts to family and friends. Over the following year or so, the word about the kits apparently got out and when they started getting requests for kits from people they didn't know and eventually from across the country, they decided to begin offering them on eBay under user ID MarlasMarket. [Although most of their sales are now through this website, they have had over 15,000 transactions on eBay since the end of 2002 and their feedback rating is 99.4% positive.]

Casting Keepsakes has since launched this website and moved out of the kitchen and into a dedicated space. However to keep costs down and because a lot of the work is done during non-business hours, the pair have chosen not to maintain a physical store-front. They do, however, attend various events, expos, shows, craft/gift fairs, etc.

The life casting kits have always been packaged and assembled by hand and some of this is 'out-sourced' to stay-at-home moms in the area. When you receive your life casting kit you can be assured that it is freshly packaged because the kits are never packaged more than about 4-6 weeks in advance and many times it may even have been packaged just the night before.

Recently (2008), Casting Keepsakes acquired an air drying clay line of products featured in the Clay Keepsake Kits category. Although they are not manufactured directly by Casting Keepsakes, they stand by the quality of the product just as much as they do their original life casting kits.
