Plaster Bandages: The 20 sq ft of plaster bandages is sufficient to cast the breasts and belly with an adequate number of layers of plaster guaze. If you wish to include shoulders, upper arms, and/or the upper 1/3 of thighs in the casting (or are carrying twins, etc), definitely consider adding another 1-2 rolls of plaster guaze to your order.

What quality are you getting? The plaster bandages shown both measure 4in x 5yds. However, one clearly has much more plaster material, which makes all the difference.

The plaster casting stone can be used to smoothen out (and/or reinforce) the cast.  It is a stronger version of the plaster that is embedded in the bandages.  By adding the casting stone to the cast, you will no longer see the layered look created by the bandages.  However, if you like the bandage look and still want the cast to be reinforced, you can add the plaster casting stone to the inside of the cast instead.

(Optional) Gesso white acrylic primer (matte) is available with the purchase of this kit.  It prepares the cast for painting by providing "tooth" for the paint (acrylics, oils, Tempera and others). It will also create an even smoother surface, further strengthen as well as seal the cast.  [Water-Based, Non-Toxic, Non-Flammable]  

You will need to provide a barrier or lubricant for the casting area (your belly, etc).  Lubricant options that are known to work well that you may have at home include Vaseline (as well as un-petroleum jelly), Udderly SMooth Udder Cream and vegetable shortening. Be sure to apply a very generous layer of whichever you use.  (An all-natrual lubricant is included with each of our other 2 kits: ProudBody; Luna Bean).  If you would prefer not to use a lubricant, consider a plastic barrier: specifically Glad Press 'N' Seal plastic wrap. Members of our local mom group have experimented with several options and agree that a plastic wrap is a nice alternative over a lubricant. The tacky side of the Press 'N' Seal wrap gently clings to mom's skin. It then separates very easily, cleanly and quickly from both mom's belly and from the back of the finished cast.

You will also need to provide something (old towels or sheets, plastic bags, plastic wrap, etc.) to protect the floor and/or chair.

Note: Traditional retail packaging is not included with this basic kit. However, if the gift wrap option is selected, it will be packaged in a white gift box with ribbon (instead of gift wrap paper). Otherwise, this kit is not supplied in a box or retail packaging of any kind.

*The casting material contained in the bandages is made from 100% natural materials and is non-toxic and safe to use on mom's skin. Further, there is no noticeable heat reaction when applied to mom's skin, unlike standard plaster of paris.
