About Our DIY Hand Casting Kit Company

Casting Keepsakes and the Luna Bean brand is a family owned business based in the United States. It was started in a kitchen in 2002 by two sisters taking a leaves of absence from their careers of biomedical engineering and accounting to care for their newborn infants. While looking for the perfect baby footprint keepsake, they were inspired by products used in a local play. Unsuccessful in finding exactly what they were looking for in retail stores, they spent several weeks gathering and testing hand molding and casting materials until they found what they considered the perfect combination. 

Not wanting to keep it just for themselves, they put together baby feet and hand molding kits to give as gifts to family and friends so that they, too, could also create unique keepsakes. The word about the 3D casting kits apparently got out and they started getting requests from people they didn't know and eventually from across the country.  

In 2004, the Casting Keepsakes website was officially launched featuring the Luna Bean 3D Life Casting DIY kit brand. Although now out of the kitchen and in a dedicated space, the life casting kits have always been packaged and assembled by hand in the United States. Any 'out-sourcing' is to stay-at-home moms, dads, and college students in the local area. 

A few years later, a partnership began with the Proud Body line of products. Proud Body was founded in 2001 by a former corporate securities attorney who said "yes!" to the big belly. Proud Body was launched to commemorate those months of anticipating a new person entering the world. The Proud Body brand includes pregnancy belly casting kits, baby-safe ink pads and pregnancy art.
